Webshare is the entry-market leader, with a self-service platform that expands the Source ecosystem’s ability to provide various kinds of users with access to high-quality proxies. With a free-forever plan that includes 10 datacenter proxies and 1 gigabyte per month, Webshare effectively covers the proxy access needs of many occasional users free of charge. No trial clock, no credit card, just safe use of proxies.
This open approach has helped Webshare grow to more than 100,000 paying customers, with 3 million people having used the free proxies. Together, free and paid users generate over 650B requests each month, or a quarter of a million every second, around the clock.
Our mission at Webshare is to remove both the technical and commercial barriers that usually keep reliable proxy infrastructure out of reach for smaller teams. By keeping our platform accessible and friction-free from day one, we make sure that anyone with a script and an idea can build with the same data foundation as major enterprises.

Most users are solopreneurs, prosumers, consultants, small businesses, or developers testing ideas before investing money. By making a fully automated, highly scalable proxy infrastructure available, Webshare puts web access capabilities usually reserved for much larger operations in the hands of individuals and small teams.
Capabilities built in-house and scaled at Source
Webshare was founded in 2019 in the San Francisco Bay Area by Utku Zihnioglu, whose previous company, Remotium, was acquired by Avast. Coming out of the cybersecurity space, the founding team had previously built companies that worked with Fortune 100 organizations and other large enterprises.
That background shaped an early decision that still defines the product. Webshare built its technology in-house rather than assembling it from third-party partners. From day one, it has operated as a product-led company, built around a simple principle of moving fast, experimenting continuously, and letting real user behavior guide what comes next. That builder mindset stays central to how the product evolves, and it helps explain why a service priced at the market entry point performs the way it does.
Webshare entered the ecosystem in September 2022, likely marking the first acquisition of a Silicon Valley business by a Lithuanian-founded company. This strategic move brought a strong entry-market focus to the ecosystem known for serving enterprise customers.
Webshare’s pricing remains consistent, and the free tier is still free. Since the acquisition, the product has grown in capability: a larger proxy pool and wider geo-coverage, new proxy product lines, and continued work on a best-in-market self-service experience, all backed by stronger compliance standards and back-office operational support a proxy business needs to thrive.
Powerful proxy infrastructure at your fingertips
Webshare proves that affordability can go together with strong performance and high ethical standards. It sources its residential proxy pool, which now has more than 80M IPs, ethically from a small set of vetted partners, every one of them held to strict compliance and consent requirements. The same standards protect free plan users and paying customers alike.
Its platform is built by focusing on the problems at hand and finding solutions that work right now, not the theoretical best answer. This quick thinking and readiness to experiment helped Webshare advance proxy technology and build a powerful proxy infrastructure, made available through a self-serve dashboard.
But beyond technology, the buying experience is a big part of the product. Webshare avoids the hassles that typically slow people down, such as sales calls and waiting for quotes. With pricing per IP, published openly, customers always know the cost before signing up, and setup takes about a minute. This simplicity removes friction, so even someone deciding on a Saturday can move forward with an idea instead of abandoning it out of frustration.
Web made more accessible for all
Proxy infrastructure makes reliable, scalable access to web data possible. Webshare makes it possible for more people to benefit from proxy-powered access.
Web data is foundational to how many companies build. At this stage, who can reach the web becomes a question about the shape of the market. Foundational should mean available to the developer testing an idea on a weekend, not only to the organization with a large procurement budget behind it.
A permanent free tier with no expiry says something fundamental about who the open web is meant for. With three million people using the free plan, Webshare is betting on its users’ creative potential. Many may never need to move beyond the free plan, while others scale seamlessly as their projects grow. Some are building new things that will take off and become huge.
As Webshare puts web access infrastructure into more hands capable of using it productively and AI further improves how the web can be acted on, the collective potential for inventing the next game-changing thing grows by the day.
